FAQ:
How do I remove a scratch from my car's paint?
Information:

For the most part, scratches can be removed or demished in appearance if they have not crossed the clearcoat/paint barrier. Factory paint jobs are generally base coat, clear coat applications. When you get a scratch that has passed the clearcoat/paint barrier there is very little you can do and the panel will have to be repainted. If the scratch is mostly or all clearcoat you can at least reduce the size of it.

First wash the car as directed in another article entitled, "How to properaly wash my car." Once you have a clean and clear surface we can start to prepared the scratched area for removal.
For this article we will discuss how to remove scratches in the clearcoat by hand since most people don't want to buy buffers.
Apply some Scratch Remover to a Microfiber Applicator Pad and rub the scratch using moderate pressure. Rub at a right angle, across the scratch. Wipe the scratch with a Terry towel or Microfiber towel and inspect the surface. If the scratch remains, repeat the procedure, rubbing more aggressively. Continue the rubbing and inspecting procedure until no further improvement can be observed.
Follow with a polish to fill the remaining indentation and restore surface gloss. Apply a finishing polish such as Menzerna Final Polish, Meguiar's No. 9 Swirl Remover or 3M Perfect-It Swirl Mark Remover to a Terry cloth or Microfiber Applicator Pad and go over the area repeatedly until the polish is almost dry. Buff off any remaining film and follow with your favorite wax or paint sealant.

For the best results when attempting to remove a scratch the use of a circular polisher is best.
